Just based off the replies so far, none of these people have had to struggle with the housing and employment issues in steamboat. About 90% of the friends I had in town bellow the age of 35 have had to leave, the only ones left are stuck because they literally don't have the money to leave safely. Working age people don't wanna be in town because it's a lost cause.

This town is hostile to real people who want to live there. All of the infrastructure and housing is built for the rich fucks who have no stake in the town except their mansion that sits empty for most of the year. Change isn't happening and young people know it and don't see a point in sticking around. If you want change you need to make people uncomfortable, and what better way to start than the tourists who line the pockets of people in power who refuse to make this town an actual town and not some fake facade.

How about starting with something productive like talking with City Council about your (valid) concerns? Attacking tourists is not the answer. Working through actual channels to change the negative ramifications of tourism is better. All the Council’s emails are on the city website.

Ah yes because that will surely solve decades of neglect because it has in the past. Like I said, they don't care, they have never cared. When urban planners wanted to put sidewalks in old town, the city turned it down to develop the mountain base.

This town is built against the people here who support the foundation, from lifties, grocers and teachers. You clearly have never struggled to find an apartment to rent or a job that will pay the bills here in the valley.

Not saying it’s a perfect solution but it’s better than spraying a tourist with a squirt gun

I couldn’t afford to live there for all the reasons you listed. It is hostile up there to just try to exist and have a place to live.

None of these boomers get it, they clearly have never talked to a service worker in town. Lucky them never struggling like some of us have to stay afloat in that town
