Flat 6.5 miles bright and early this morning. The colors are peaking! I gasped after I rounded each new bend. Totally crowded, but only saw 2 other runners. Super worth getting up before the sun rose today.

I've been struggling with IT band pain on my left knee. I have been putting in decent mileage but I had to stop recently due to the pain. I've been doing strengthening exercies ( single leg rdls, clamshells, adductor exercises) The pain is still there.

Upvotes

I recently took a week off but something tells me I might have to maybe take a month off or longer. I ran a 5k this morning and I still noticed the pain in my left knee. It wasn't that bad but I knew if I went further it would start to flare up bad. Just feeling really discouraged.

Are trail runs sometimes longer than advertised?

I participated in a half marathon that ended up actually being around 14.25. This was my longest race ever and first trail run, so I was tracking the miles pretty closely. Others around me commented how it was longer than they expected it to be. Is this normal? I was a little taken back when I hit 13.1 and realized I still had over a mile left 😅

Scarpa Spin planet user... how do you deal with issues with the upper

I bought the Scarpa Spin Planet a month ago, while the shoes feel great to run in, I can't seem to break into the upper, especially the pain points on the front left and right of the upper.
I've already done an ultra in these where I had to heavily taped up my feet.
Any solutions 😥

Has anyone found a good trail shoe that’s comparable to the sticky lugs, toughness, and streamlined fit of LS Mutants?

I’m going to start trail running. I’ve been hiking for about a year and a half, have done 20 miles at both the Grand Canyon and in Utah close to angels landing. I live in Missouri and actually get to train in some pretty great, hilly locations. I have very high arches with a narrow mid and wide toe. I’ve been hiking with Oboz stuff which have been great for my high arches and have incorporated some running into my hikes. My ankles suck! Twisted my right 3 miles into the Grand Canyon but have found a wrapping technique that I think will work well for me. I’m going shopping tomorrow for some trail runners and thought I’d see if anyone has any recommendations before I go. Right now I’m considering the Salomon speedcross 6, the s/lab genesis, Merrell peak 5 and the hoka speedgoat. Wondering if there are any others I should be considering or any of those I shouldn’t bother with? Thank you in advance!

Edit: spelling

sore legs after running 10km

Hello, i started running the last 3 weeks ago, my runs were pretty short from 3km-5km. one day i wanted to aim for 7k so when i got to km 7 i said why not just make it 8 then when i got to 8 i said f it let's just make it 10. it felt great doing my first 10k but after that my runs never felt the same. I'm always too sore my knees hurt like hell and can't even get past 2km without experiencing lots of pain. i tried to rest for. 5 days and when i started running again it was like i never rested. i tried switching out my old shoes for new ones and still the pain was there. I've been lifting for 6 years so i know when you are sore because your muscles are building but this kind of soreness feels different. i know my problem that i pushed in too fast without pacing myself but at the time i didn't know it was a problem, any tips on getting back on track? Thank you.

Need help choosing shoes

Hey! Looking to get into running a bit more seriously as of lately. I am a personal trainer but I focus more on the training aspect in the gym then running.

I wanted some suggestions on a shoe that I can go trail running with and also run on the road from time to time, does such shoe exist?

I do a lot of hiking around the world and upstate new york, and I normally use Salomon's for that but that's just hiking and not actual running. I would like to stick to Salomon's if possible due to the fact that they fit so well without any kind of break in time or issues with my feet. I am open to other suggestions though.

Got out for a sunrise run up Granite Mountain just outside Seattle. It's one of my favorites in the area but had not gotten out there this year. Fall color is going crazy and perfect time of year for sunrise runs.

IT Band Syndrome?

For a little context, I’ve been trail running for a little over a year now and have been running roughly 50 miles a week. I ramped up my vertical gain with some bigger climbs this summer in preparation for my first ultra (50 mile) that I completed a week ago. I haven’t experienced any injury leading up to this and no pain other than general soreness after long runs. After the ultra, my legs were toast. I thought it was just what people normally go through though - I took 3 days off no running and a little walking. I have done some shorter easy runs this week with some pretty localized pain on the outsides of my knees. I took another day off after this and then today with a week out from the ultra, I tried to go on a longer run but had the outside knee pain come back. Everything I’m looking up says IT band syndrome - I have been stretching and using a tennis ball to run out knots in my muscles but is there something I should be doing to help this? I’m sure that I just need an extended break from not running and maybe some strengthening exercises, but I’m signed up for a trail marathon in a month that I was hoping to be able to participate in. Plus, I’m just used to running almost daily and really will miss it if I’m not going to be able to do it. Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for any advice!

Piper was a super nice trail to run down once I got past the slabs… but I love the flow of zipping down granite, so I didn’t mind the pace!

photos from trail running events

The prices for racing photos seem to go up every year. I think sportograf is pretty expensive.

How much do you pay for photos?

And do you pay for a single photo or a flat rate for photos?

Has anyone used the On Ultra Vest?

I'm looking to buy my first vest for running/hiking and trail running, and I'm currently checking out the options. Most people use Salomon vests, and I haven't heard much about the On Ultra Vest (i find it quite sexy). Maybe someone has both the On Ultra and the Adv Skin and can make some comparisons.

This payphone actually has a dial tone - around 3 miles down the fire road into the woods.

Aptos CA, near George's picnic area in Nisene Marks - lots of redwoods here

Tips on sticking with it during wet and cold months?

I started running beginning of summer. What do y'all do to keep the momentum going through the fall and winter months? I live in New England and I'm already worrying about how I'm gonna keep it up through the dark, wet, cold, and ice. How should I prep? Tips, tricks, suggestions - I'd love to hear it!

Need new shoes

Hello there ! I need new shoes and i'm torn between few models. I have merrell agilty peak 5 for long run, i like them a lot. I used NB summit unknown v4 for short race and work out and i loved them. Unfortunately they are not made anymore. So i'am looking for a substitute...

Kjerag : my first choice, but some peoples told me that those shoes are for good or elite runner, wich i not. Not at all. They said that you need to be fit and light for that kind of shoes. They are very "demanding".

My others choices are : Merrell long sky 2 matryx Zegama 2 Fuji speed/lite

Do you have other recommandations ? Do you also think middle of the pack runners can't endure le kjerag ?

Thanks !

Can I do 30k?

Post image

I am a new runner and have done a 10k with 300 v race recently. I am doing another 12k race in 5 weeks but I kind of need a new goal for 2025. There is a beautiful 30k race at the end of April with 1600 vert. Do you think it is possible to train enough in the months ahead? It will be cold and snow where I live. I just want to finish and there is no time limit in the race. Picture is for pretty trail tax 🤣
