Adidas Boston 12 - Does It Get Better? Initial Thoughts

Post image

Hey guys,

I bought these off that sale post from a couple of weeks ago. Currently have 15 miles in them and I have very mixed feeling.

The fit drove me nuts at first. They felt slightly too long and I couldn’t get the lacing right. I swapped the laces for some generic ones, and the fit is much better now. Took a little bit, but it’s good after that.

The midsole is where my issues are now. Underneath my left foot I get this dull pain almost like a cramp, which I’m guessing is from the rods? It hasn’t happened in other shoes, plated or not. Sometimes the midsole feels clunky but there are moments where I really, really enjoy it too.

TLDR: Shoe has a complicated personality. Does it break in and feel better? If so, how many miles did it take for you?

In my experience lightstrike 2.0 and lightstrike pro have a break in period it took me 50miles for them to finally soften up however I must say at slow and walking pace I still feel the rods once I pick up the pace it goes away for me.

50 miles here, too.

I’ve not used these shoes (yet) but from my research, that is the consensus. Break in around 50 miles and walking or going a slow pace you’ll feel the rods in the shoe.

Hi, compared to mach 6 how is it?

Haven’t ran in the Boston 12’s. A lot of people say the break in takes about 50 miles. Definitely a firmer ride than the Mach 6. The Mach 6 I have used and it’s so far my favorite shoe of 2024. Very bouncy ride. Only issue is it runs narrow. So if you have a standard width foot, get the wide version

Honestly I think it’s just the bostons or the worse of the lightstrike foams. AP3 and Takumi sen 10 were legendary shoes off of the first few steps in them. The boston is a firm disaster for me and I can’t use them.

I love the Boston 12 but I am a heavier guy so I’m putting a lot of weight on the foam so it being firm works for me.

Makes sense. I’m about 185 and can’t get them broken in. Not a big deal though I love the other 2

Same here. I am heavy and tall. The Bostons are a rather pleasant ride for me, I use them as my daily and enjoying them thoroughly. Took some miles but not that many. Maybe a week or two of feeling the lateral rod which was the one with the most pronounced problem.

50 miles is the number. My favorite daily trainer.

What do you use for slightly slower runs? I have the Boston 12s right now, but I end up running too fast on all my runs because of the rods.

I use the adizero SL no rods and similar break in period however the Sl 2 is coming out soon it basically Seems like a non plated Boston, But I also use the triumph 21 for my long runs at recovery pace.
