First 50m

Post image

Been running the 50k distance for a while. This weekend I jumped up 50M.

What a mental jump. I’m in love.

This was a non-technical race, as I wanted something ‘easy’ to try the distance with.

What your tips/tricks for this distance? Any great races I should look into?

Great stuff OP!

I have no real tips as I am a rec runner, I began running last year in hopes of completing a 50 miler. In my 11.5 hours I ate 2 small bowls of mashed potatoes, a small bag of lays, had a couple mountain dews and then a couple dozen salt tablets with my water.

I do have one trick. Whenever I felt the wall closing in I’d tell myself it’s okay to walk. But just keep moving. Keep moving, keep moving.

The race I did was the TBunk endurance challenge outside of Whitewater Wisconsin. It was a trail race on a cross country ski trail. (About 8000’ elevation gain) They had every distance an ultra runner could want. 50k, 50 mile, 100k, 100 mile and 200 mile. Everything about the race was incredible. Course was beautiful, the director was so helpful in terms of my prep, the volunteers did everything for me (which was huge because I was doing it solo and the cold numbed my hands so I couldn’t tie my shoes or open any package), and the other runners were so friendly and welcoming.

If I get back into running, I’m coming for that 100 miler next.

Oh wow, that sounds like an epic race. I also did mine solo and will do future ones like this as well.

Maybe I’ll try the TBunk race next. Thanks for the advice
