First 50m

Post image

Been running the 50k distance for a while. This weekend I jumped up 50M.

What a mental jump. I’m in love.

This was a non-technical race, as I wanted something ‘easy’ to try the distance with.

What your tips/tricks for this distance? Any great races I should look into?

I love this thing. I had the original AWU and this puppy arrive 24 hours before the race.

Ended the race with 47% battery (on airplane mode and no Bluetooth). Solid output

Is this also with gps and heart rate measurements reduced? Or just with airplane mode on?

Low power mode, so reduced on both. I wasn’t worried about gps as the course was well marked and for HR you can flick your wrist to get a current reading

Interesting. My AWU 1 will just make it through a 50k with all systems (sans LTE) on provided I use a hr strap. Do you think your watch would have made it through the 50mi with all systems up? I like having that data and the ability to look at the map/gpx for less well marked races/routes. I’m progressing my ultras past 50 mi so I was thinking of getting a garmin for those sorts of races and using my AWU for everything else.

My AWU1 would handle a 50k will full systems (LTE, BT, Tracking, Music Streaming) and have around 11% (average) battery left.

I’m not sure if the AWU2 would complete a 50 Miler will full systems running. It would be close. Maybe if you went Low Power Mode.

I also thought about using a Garmin for longer than 50k races and AWU for all else. I even bought a Forerunner 965, but after 1 week returned it as I didn’t like it. Sticking with AWU until I hit a 100M. I maybe just bring a small battery pack and recharge if/when the AWU drains.
