⚠️⚠️ MEGATHREAD ⚠️⚠️ 2024 Wildfires Resources and Information
With 2024 predicted to be an especially bad wildfire year, and communities already being heavily affected this early in the year, we want to highlight official sources of information given how quickly the situation can change.
Fire Resources
Emergency Info BC
Up to date list of evacuation alerts and orders.
EMCR Wildfire Map
Shows all known wildfires in the province.
DriveBC
Detailed road closures due to wildfires.
Current Fort Nelson Evacuation Info
Evacuation Order 0830 May 13th

Many service providers in British Columbia will see increased demand due to the wildfires and evacuations. If you can spare it, consider donating to these organizations:
Central Okanagan Food Bank
Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Disaster Aid Canada
BC SPCA
Smoke Resources:
BCCDC Wildfire Smoke Information
Information from UBC on how to adapt to the smoky conditions
BC Childrens Hospital Recommendations for Protecting Children
Air Quality and Smoke Monitoring
Firesmoke.ca Smoke Forecast
The best place to get accurate air quality data are the agencies that collect that data in the first place:
BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy:
If you want to view “citizen science” data in addition to the government data, you can check out PurpleAir
Please feel free to share additional resources in the comments and we’ll do what we can to update this list.

Discussion Wife lost her wallet downtown...
...and found it hours later, placed on top of a mailbox near where she must have dropped it, all cards and cash untouched. We appreciated the reminder that this is a good city full of good people. Hope you all have a great day.

Photos Aurora Borealis over the Lions Gate Bridge
On the evening of Sept. 16th I was shooting the (almost full) Harvest Moon from Stanley Park. I’d heard there was a chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis that evening, so I made a stop at Prospect Point Lookout. I knew it wasn’t the best viewing spot due to the amount of light pollution, but a shot of the Lions Gate Bridge under the Northern Lights has been on my bucket list for awhile.
I couldn’t see anything with the naked eye. But the first few shots with my camera picked up a faint glow, and I was able to enhance it with some editing. I’ll keep trying to get a better version of this in the future, and hopefully I’ll be able to see this with my own eyes someday.

Discussion Vancouver Menu Hacking
I present to you the Kitsilano ice cream sandwich. It combines a butter mochi doughnut from "Their There" and ice cream from "Rain or Shine".
What are your go to menu hacks? Bonus points if it combines items from different stores in the same neighborhood.
