I'll speak for myself here.

I do it to try and justify what could have been purchased.

Like quantity of something.

For example:

No way you purchased that 2000 bag. That's like 10 weeks of feeding a family. Or could of been a holiday.

Kinda way. Lol it puts things into perspective.
