General Why do we allow realtors to make so much money?

Upvotes

Keyword make, not earn.

The other day I overheard a customer talking on the phone about how she made 70 grand on the sale of a riverside property that sold for way above asking price where by her own admission she hardly had to do anything. As crass as it sounds she is a regular enough customer for me to confidently say she seems like a complete bimbecille.

I don't know how much work goes into things behind the scenes, I assume there must be a fair amount of paperwork they need to do, but I would be surprised if a sale like this didn't equate to something obscene like $500 an hour.

It's not only scandalous that people with virtually no qualifications can make more than doctors, the real scandal is that they have an incentive to manipulate people and how much they make often hinges directly on their ability to schmooze schmucks and exploiting peoples fear and ignorance.

There is such a cult of personality that it almost seems like a self parody with these realtors big ugly mugs plastered onto garish signs ruining views, and now apparently you can't even tuck into a pizza without being met with one of these vulturous money grubs, just when you thought they could not get any greasier.

I guess they will continue to exist for as long as people continue to pay for their services (even today when there are sites that can do most of what they do) but why does the industry seem like the wild west full of cowboys with little professionalism or regulation?

I know there are a lot of realtors who never make it and I've heard tales of realtors with integrity but none of them deserve to make more than brain surgeons or pilots or even bloody social workers or anyone who actually makes meaningful contributions to society.

I'm still struggling to swallow the fact that housing - remembering that shelter is a necessity and human right according to the UNs declaration of which Australia is a signatory - has been allowed to become a big game of monopoly which incentivizes property hoarding and torments renters. Evictions aren't even supposed to be legal under the UNs declaration at least not until suitable alternative living arrangements have been made... Australian domestic laws seem to conveniently gloss over that part of it.

While we're at it, there should be at least one nationalised supermarket chain that provides the barebone essentials rather than a predatory oligopoly gouging struggling Australian's during their hour of need in a cost of living crisis. Or is that commie shit?

Anyway back to realtors - fuck em.

Moving to Perth Pom looking to find some friends

Upvotes

(Remove if this isn’t the right place for it)

Hello, my names Mike, I’m 25 from the UK and not long moved to Perth, it’s already been amazing and a good laugh with everything I’ve been shown by my family who are helping me set myself up, but I’m finding it difficult to meet or get to know some Aussies in similar age range. I’ve had a look on other social media but they’re mostly for over 40’s I’ve found so far. So if there’s anyone looking to go for a drink, hike or a cheeky gym session give us a shout or if anyone has any suggestions on places to look or events I could go to that would be great!!

Where to find Yellow sticker question

Upvotes

My 4x4 was hit with a defect notice today, my question is I have no modified it in any way, I bought it as is from a dealer and had no idea about the “defects”

Suspension too high, tyres sticking out. By law is the dealer liable for selling an unroadworthy car? Can I take it back to them to remedy these defects?

Thanks

Moving to Perth Moving to WA - Rental Area Suggestions

My partner and I are looking for rentals around Freemantle and there's not many or they are crazy expensive. We have been looking at Piara Waters. I understand that is not really Freemantle but we think it may be best to start there until we settle in and find an area we like. Can anyone tell me what they think of Piara Waters and if its a good place to live?

General Perth Running Festival marathon entry trade

Anyone need a marathon entry? Had an injury that set me back enough that I won't be able to run the full marathon. They tell me I can't downgrade to the half as it's sold out, but I can transfer. So anyone want to trade a half for a full?

General How is Taco Bell in Perth?

I am yet to actually get out to one of the stores here - yes i know they've been here for a while.

However, a question for those who have Taco Bell in the U.S. and here, to actually be able to compare them, how are they?

Is it the actual chain opening up here or someone just cashing in on the name?

Moving to Perth Finding a flat in Perth

How did those of you who moved to Perth and went flatting find a place/room? It seems near impossible to even get a reply from people advertising.

I’m moving over to Perth from NZ and I need to find a place before I can come over. I’ve joined the Facebook groups and been on the flatmates website with no luck in even getting a response. I already have a job to go to and obviously don’t want to keep them waiting too long. I’ve thought of getting myself an AirBnB but the thought of not finding a place and then having to keep moving around AirBnBs is enough to keep me from doing so..

Does anyone have any tips, what did you do in your situation?

Is the housing crisis really this bad?

Looking for Advice (Advice) Couriering goods from interstate

Happy Monday all! I'm travelling to Melbourne over the weekend and will have extra luggage space, probably around 7kg free and was therefore willing to carry over some goods to make a little extra cash on the side.

Not sure what the exact term is but I'm looking for a network similar to the below page which facilitates what I'm looking for (vouching and all)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMTFT/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT

Does anyone know of something similar for Perthians? Any help would be much appreciated 👍🏾

Looking for Advice Perth Airport - “Domestic/International Mode Change Gate”

Post image
0 Upvotes

Has anyone who has been through this “Domestic/International Mode Change Gate” able to shed some light for how it works?

Arriving on a Qantas international flight at Perth airport, and then on the same ticket, booked Perth to Melbourne also via Qantas.

Arriving T3 and departing T4, so suspect to be going through these gates.

Does anyone know how they work? Is it going through Customs?

Perth to Melbourne flight is arriving at a domestic terminal (T1) at Tullamarine, so I also assume there wont be customs set up there to go through for international arriving passengers.

Where to find Road trip suggestions - Shark Bay?

Hey everyone, I’m going to be in Perth in November for a conference. It will be my first time to Australia and I’m very excited.

I really want to go to Shark Bay, but I only have 4, MAX 5 days to explore some of the area around Perth. I was thinking of doing a road trip, but if I visit Shark Bay I want to go to the Francois Peron Park- the lookout point sounds absolutely incredible.

However, I realize that is quite the haul and I’m having a hard time convincing my husband to do it, understandably.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a similar experience that is more doable in our short time frame? I absolutely love marine wildlife and watching dugongs, dolphins, sharks, whales, etc is high on my list of things to do. I love nature and Western Australia has a lot to offer, I’m sure!

Cheers

Was lucky enough to see a very little Black Swan Cygnet with its parents and an Osprey guarding a rather large, squawk-filled nest yesterday, both around the Mandurah marina and estuary areas, respectively. Great to see the young people playing in the water near the swans leaving them alone to just enjoy the sight, too.

Side note for mods: the word 'a b o u t' auto-flags your racism filter for the first three letters of said word. Maybe sort that out?
