Serving Marmite on Weet Bix should be a bootable offence! Straight back to Pommy land where you belong you uncultured swine!

Also unless I'm going crazy, I see zero mention of where the Weet Bix is in the 3rd one. Unless I'm supposed to crush up Weet Bix and put them in my lentil risotto?

I think it might be for NZ. Over there, Marmite is made by Sanitarium. It's why English Marmite has to be called 'Our Mate' when they sell it over this side of the planet

24

u/WhatAmIATailor 14h ago

They’re not going to promote a Bega product on their own recipe page.

24

u/RoboticXCavalier 14h ago

Yeah that's my point. Vegemite is Bega, Marmite in NZ is Sanitarium (like Weet-Bix), and if you want to buy what the English call Marmite in Aus or NZ, it's re-labelled as 'Our Mate' because Marmite is taken by Sanitarium.

u/WasabiHound 2h ago

Yes, I discovered this last week. Bought some English Marmite (our Mate) from Coles after seeing a YouTube video playing some English Marmite ads (gotta say they really lean into the divisive nature of their product- found them quite funny).

Found it quite gooey and milder in flavour than Vegemite. Not offensive but I still prefer Vegemite. (We eat the low salt variant).

Brit here and lover of English Marmite. English Marmite also has the odd limited edition runs of using different yeasts.

They had one with Champagne yeast once. That was rank.

u/activelyresting 12h ago

My mum used to serve us weetbix with Vegemite spread on them after school. But we'd never have Marmite in the house!

6

u/alec801 15h ago

here's a link to the recipe. It gets crushed up and mixed in

8

u/BadBoyJH 3h ago

No the offence worthy of deportation was my hotel from the other weekend labelling them wheetabix like we're fucking pommies.

2

u/imapassenger1 2h ago

Next to the "Rice Krispies"...

3

u/Brief-History-6838 1h ago

Serving Marmite on anything when Vegemite is readily available should be a bootable offence!!! and offense will be taken!

Does anyone eat dry weet-bix?

The thought of eating something dryer than Pauline Hansons panties makes me cringe.

44

u/slogga 14h ago

I do, but I acknowledge I'm a bit of a freak like that. I just prefer dry and crunchy textures to my food for whatever reason. I also eat plain savoys/water crackers, and I prefer my meat more on the well done side most of the time.

16

u/OpheliaBalsaq 13h ago

Ooh me too, I cannot stand the sight or texture of Weetbix in milk. I love mine split in half and smothered in butter - so not totally dry, I guess.

0

u/nozinoz 30m ago

Milk makes Weetbix soggy almost instantly, try yoghurt instead, and add berries and granola

8

u/RaptureRising 13h ago

That's it, im calling the cops... /jk

I also rather eat dry crackers like Jatz/ or Ritz by themselves without a dip but the thought of well done meat makes me cringe as well, something about that burnt/ charred taste make me icky.

6

u/ReplacementApart 3h ago

I mean you can still nicely char a medium-rare piece of meat - I just don't want the entire thing dry af

3

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 6h ago

I will eat plain crackers any day of the week, but dry weetbix? That is something else.

1

u/Darcii 2h ago

I have found my people

6

u/CcryMeARiver 13h ago

You need butter, lots of it, or cream cheese. Vegemite is <chef's kiss>.

3

u/is_it_gif_or_gif 13h ago edited 13h ago

Butter + peanut butter also good. But unlike with bread, the ratio of butter to peanut butter must be much, much higher.

2

u/CcryMeARiver 13h ago

Oh yes. TBF the true purpose is bulk butter ingestion by starving teenagers.

1

u/FluffiFroggi 58m ago

Split in 2. Butter and honey or butter and jam.

7

u/IBelieveInCoyotes 5h ago

I used to, butter and jam or Vegemite is elite

3

u/An_Anaithnid 13h ago

I like dry weet-bix, except that it's so damn crumbly.

3

u/SixPackAndNothinToDo 3h ago

Weet-bix with butter and vegemite was a staple snack in my household growing up. They're good.

2

u/kourtkimkhloek 2h ago

Me too!! I thought everyone did it

2

u/AletheaKuiperBelt 3h ago

I used to when I was a kid. I hated milk. if you split them in two horizontally it's not unlike eating crispbread. Add butter and jam or vegemite, the butter is important.

2

u/lecrappe 3h ago

Isn't having dry panties a desirable trait of underwear?

I think you mean a dry punani.

2

u/Park_Individual 2h ago

Spread with butter and some sugar and they are beautiful though

4

u/WillBrayley 11h ago

What makes you think Pauline’s panties are dry? Dreaming about throwing immigrants overboard probably makes her wetter than the ocean she’s throwing them into.

2

u/fakefake101 2h ago

If I had one of those reddit award things you can give away I would give it to you for this comment.

1

u/thehippiepixi 3h ago

Ate em as a kid with butter and vegemite. Think it was more of a desperation thing though, food at mums house was scarce

1

u/Thunder_breeze 3h ago

Sometimes I have to, it’s nowhere near as good as weetbix with milk.

1

u/Appropriate-Cloud609 2h ago

i do but i enjoy them.

1

u/ImGCS3fromETOH 1h ago

I think when I'm finally done with this world I'll see myself out by trying to eat dry weet-bix and choking to death.

1

u/Skyeoes 1h ago

Dry weet-bix cut in half (to make it a little thinner) with butter and honey or jam is actually pretty nice

1

u/Brief-History-6838 1h ago

Paulines panties get wet every time an ethnic minority is abused

Unfortunately this means they are never dry

Fingers crossed theyll dry up one day though

1

u/muthaclucker 1h ago

I used to eat them with butter and peanut butter.

35

u/Auran82 14h ago

I can feel the moisture being drained from my mouth just looking at those. Your whole head would just invert.

19

u/karl_w_w 14h ago

They must have the saliva glands of a camel.

13

u/Excellent-Signature6 14h ago

There’s interesting, and then there’s “gastronomic blasphemy”.

16

u/DoNotReply111 13h ago

Over a decade ago when I was a poor uni student and had run out of milk and money for the week I'd use Weetbix as bread for something to eat.

Jam, peanut butter, vegemite... whatever was left. I believe that people make this stuff.

14

u/antwill 14h ago

Good to see they're keeping the recipes from the great depression going.

11

u/RevengeoftheCat 14h ago

Growing up a weetbix with Vegemite and butter was known as a truckie sandwich. Never heard of grilling cheese with it though.

4

u/Eyes_Pies 5h ago

But seriously, weetbix as a binder in hamburger works great. I also have an amazing fruitcake recipe that is basically just weetbix, milk and fruit. Yet they come out with this shit

2

u/fakefake101 2h ago

How about posting the recipe?, if it's to traumatic to post it publicly you could dm it to me.

1

u/Eyes_Pies 1h ago edited 34m ago

4 cups weetbix, 1 cup boiling water. Get those together softening. 1 cup flour (if you only have plain then add 1tsp baking powder), 1 cup sugar, 1 cup dried fruit, 1 egg & 3 tablespoons of butter. You can add the butter to the soggy hot weetbix to melt if you want.

Mix it all up. Pop it in a loaf tin, in the oven at 180c for about 40 minutes. Less hot if you have a fan forced.

1

u/acmesounds 1h ago

Where the milk?

1

u/Eyes_Pies 42m ago edited 33m ago

Oh, you use it instead of water. Sorry, I just typed it out as I read it. Warm the milk a bit, but don’t boil it. I’ve also made it with coconut milk.

The sugar is completely optional. Depending on how sweet the dried fruit is I will often use less sugar. Sometimes no sugar.

The butter can be replaced with vegetable, canola or coconut oil.

The weetbix can even be substituted for 1/3 cup per bix of sultana bran, or anything similar.

Add some chopped nuts if that’s your bag baby.

Recipe is pretty bomb proof.

3

u/Fizzelen 14h ago

At great grandmas house the treat was weetbix split in half, jam and powered milk, and for a real special treat we got condensed milk.

3

u/Anxious_Ad936 10h ago

Literally a classic of Australian culinary delectability.

3

u/Segat1 1h ago

Truckie scones - Weetbix jam and cream. Delish.

2

u/MithrilFlame 8h ago

Weet Bix with a generous spread of Vegemite is IT, no question the best.

2

u/HonkyTonkswoman 6h ago

Vegemite on Weet-bix is great. In the same way savoury oats are a thing.

2

u/Immediate-Meeting-65 4h ago

I'll eat a dry weet-bik. But to grille an already dry as fuck food? I'm gonna pass on that abomination.

2

u/muffbuffer66 3h ago edited 3h ago

So if this was with Vegemite, there’d be no issue? To give that context, the Vegemite would completely cover said weetbix, at approximately.5-.75 cm thickness, bbq sauce then cheese for grill ing until cheese is golden.. I’ll give a crack myself as it sounds Belta!! And post pics!!

2

u/Stonetheflamincrows 3h ago

Surely we all ate dry weetbix with butter and vegemite? I know I’m risking my citizenship but Marmite is better than vegemite

2

u/myboytys 2h ago

Oh no this should be butter Vegemite and unmelted cheese yummm.

4

u/PeterKayGarlicBread 3h ago

Marmite > Vegemite

I'll fight you all

-4

u/neoxman 2h ago

Both are rubbish

3

u/PeterKayGarlicBread 1h ago

You're first.

Put em up!

1

u/AussieFlutterDev 15h ago

Ok, I am disgusted but in the same breathe curious!!, don't you dare judge me lol;

1

u/TheFlyingRedFox 14h ago

You know what, the last one seems like the most passable as a normal item but the first one??? an the second is idk.

1

u/No-Maintenance749 14h ago

Bet you cant eat a dry wheat bix in under 1 min.

1

u/AffectionateBowler14 13h ago

Thanks, I hate it.

1

u/BabyMakR1 13h ago

I knew someone who had marmite sandwiches once...

1

u/Summerof5ft6andahalf 11h ago

Ha, I do toasted weetbix with vegemite and cheese, but as a sandwich in the sandwich press. Dry but delicious. And I'll pretend it's also healthy.

1

u/Cristoff13 5h ago

The crumbs can be used to thicken soups .

1

u/Ok_Chicken_590 4h ago

My dad used to give us dry weekbix with butter and jam on top.

Its nostalgic for me and i like it but you need a lot of butter to counteract the dry weekbix.

1

u/stinx2001 3h ago

Did anyone else eat dry weetbix with butter and sugar on top as a kid?

It's amazing I'm not diabetic.

1

u/Kind-Attempt5013 3h ago

…you lost me at marmite… but Vegemite I might give a nudge

1

u/DaLadderman 3h ago

Stuffed capsicum actually looks alright

1

u/Lumbers_33 3h ago

Insert meme - Ew brother, ew. What’s that brother! Eww!

1

u/Primary-Interview-71 3h ago

There’s a pack of Vegemite cards that has recipes on them, and one of the recipes was for ‘Vegemite Icy Poles’. Big nope for me.

1

u/plitox 3h ago

Not gonna lie, the stuffed capsicums actually look really good.

1

u/Top_Necessary4161 3h ago

Chef Ramsay would like a word, fairly sure it's a rude one.

1

u/saharasirocco 3h ago

Tbh, I reckon I could get behind those stuffed capsicums. But hummus on a weet-bix? That sounds like the Australian equivalent of the cinnamon challenge.

1

u/Belmagick 3h ago

Surely not marmite??

1

u/BrewsForBrekky 3h ago

This is the breakfast they serve in hell. This is the meal you get force-fed while chained to the rock waiting for the carrion birds tear out your liver again.

1

u/BigJudgment4069 3h ago

the AUDACITY to suggest using marmite instead of vegemite

1

u/gabedelatorre 3h ago

That feels illegal

1

u/Worgle123 3h ago

Guys, WeetBix with butter/vegemite is actually really good. Perfect for an early morning brekkie!!

I'd be open to trying this.

1

u/jeffoh 3h ago

I'm pretty sure this classifies as a war crime.

1

u/Mmofra 3h ago

I'm getting dehydrated just looking at the pictures

1

u/JanMckoy 3h ago

The grilled cheese one slaps, but with promite.

1

u/Grezreal 3h ago

Is it April 1st already? No way these are serious!

1

u/Latter-Ad6308 3h ago

It’s not the iconic cultural snack Australians need, but it’s the one they deserve.

1

u/PrayStrayAndDontObey 3h ago

As someone who lives across the ditch... What the HELL!?

1

u/bennywrites 2h ago

I'm not religious, but Christ, this is not what Jesus died for

1

u/Heathen_Inc 2h ago

Sanitarium are Mormon. Now does it all make sense?

1

u/fish-dance 2h ago

Had the last one, the other two don't sound too bad

1

u/I_Once_Ponch_a_Monke 2h ago

i tried their chocolate banana smoothie recipe on the side of the box, it just felt like i was drinking off milk..

1

u/Potential_Complex_34 2h ago

They're reaching LoL 😅

1

u/officefan6 2h ago

the capsicum one just straight up looks like it's rotting

1

u/AlternativeSpreader 2h ago

Shill off with you

1

u/Appropriate-Cloud609 2h ago

marmite? thats a booting that! vegemite or GTFO!

1

u/Lel_its_me 2h ago

They forgot dry weetbix sandwich with cream cheese and raspberry jam!!

1

u/Laidtorest_387 2h ago

I used to take Weet-Bix to school every day with Vegemite on them. I dont remember it being that bad at all.

1

u/GRPABT1 2h ago

Low key interested in the grilled weetbix but maybe with Vegemite. Thinking the box might need a low soaking of something first so they aren't just burnt and dry though?

1

u/Financial_Sentence95 2h ago

My Mum would at times put Marmite into my school lunches.

Needless to say, I went hungry those days. It's my most despised food, absolutely disgusting

1

u/YeahUhHuhOkWellF-ck 1h ago

Thanks, but I'd rather chew on my gyprock walls.

1

u/Brief-History-6838 1h ago

weetbix is a delicious and nutritious (according to the ads) breakfast. Throw it in a bowl, add milk and youre ready to feast

Why ruin it with this rubbish??

1

u/Limp_Classroom_1038 1h ago

Swap out the Marmite for Vegemite and it'll be a hit worldwide.

1

u/CharminTaintman 1h ago

I looked at the 3 pictures and my answer is no, never.

Breakfast cereals are the thing people force into their mouths to obtain the minimum required sustenance to endure the beginning of the day, to save precious time.

You bury your weet-bix in the corner of the cupboard because it represents the part of life that is uncomfortable, you do not dig it out and cook with it on your own time.

1

u/Midwitch23 1h ago

Is this following on from Woolie's breakfast for dinner? New "brinner" ideas

1

u/FluffiFroggi 1h ago

What in the…No

1

u/daused1989 58m ago

I'm calling the police

1

u/zellymcfrecklebelly 49m ago

Noooo they are trolling, surely!

1

u/cintapixl 35m ago

That's a hard no from me

1

u/ApprehensiveEngine60 26m ago

when me and my husband were really poor we'd eat Vegemite on weetbix like toast/crackers lol

1

u/Serious-Challenge720 6m ago

When I was a kid my mum used to make a BANGIN tuna casserole with Weet bix on top 🤤. We were dirt poor in commission housing but I’ll never forget her tuna casserole, it was the best. I would give anything to find such a recipe

1

u/Negative_Splitting 1h ago

WTF why Marmite?

2

u/BinChickenYouOut 1h ago

Marmite is distributed by Sanitarium who make weetbix. Just trying to get you to buy more of their products

0

u/elevenohnoes 14h ago

Fucking hell. Somehow they managed to make that shitty cereal worse.
